We have a highly experienced team of over 40 investment research analysts and investment consultants with a deep understanding of the funds management industry. Our ratings and investment research process is supported by a dedicated data and analytics team, allowing us to provide additional depth of coverage and quantitative rigour.

We are strong believers in the value of financial advice and passionate about building the investment capabilities of all investors. We work directly with financial advisers and fund managers, and seek to build relationships through continual engagement.

Matt Olsen

Chief Executive Officer, Lonsec Research

Matt joined Lonsec in October 2015 and has overall responsibility for Lonsec Research, which produces research across managed funds, structured products, ETFs, direct property and infrastructure, as well as investment consulting services. Prior to Lonsec, Matt was Chief Investment Officer of a $5 billion Industry Super Fund where he was responsible for manager research and asset allocation along with oversight of a team of portfolio managers and manager researchers. Prior to this he was Head of Research at Select Investment Partners, responsible for manager selection, asset allocation input into client portfolios and oversight of the manager research function. Matt also has extensive experience as a buy-side investment analyst responsible for stock selection and sector research on ASX and Global listed equities.

Peter Green

General Manager – Equities

Peter joined Lonsec in 2008 and is responsible for equities research at Lonsec. In this role, Peter is responsible for undertaking research across a range of sectors. Prior to joining the managed funds team in mid-2012, Peter worked as a Senior Investment Analyst for both Lonsec’s equities research and direct property teams. Before Lonsec, Peter worked as a Development Analyst/Senior Property Accountant for the Centro Properties Group, where his main role was providing investment analysis and budgeting/forecasting capabilities to the Australian retail property team. He originally worked for Andersen/Ernst & Young as an external audit senior as well as spending two years in the United Kingdom in various accounting roles.

Libby Newman

General Manager – Fixed Income and Multi Asset

Libby joined Lonsec in 2007, bringing more than 15 years’ experience in funds management and finance to her role. Libby is responsible for the review of financial products in the fixed income and multi-asset sectors. Libby also serves on the Lonsec Investment Committee which meets at least quarterly to consider asset allocation. Prior to Lonsec, Libby spent 10 years at Suncorp in funds management (mostly in fixed interest/credit analysis) as well as Abbey National/Mellon in the London (banking operations), DST International London (developers of HiPortfolio funds management software) and boutique credit arbitrage firm Artesian Capital (risk management/operations).

Michael Elsworth

General Manager — Alternatives and Specialised Research

Michael joined Lonsec in 2006 and is General Manager of Specialised Research, spanning structured and exchange-traded products. Michael is responsible for the management of the research team in these areas, coordinating sector workflows and overseeing the quality and consistency of the research output. Prior to Lonsec, Michael worked at Westpac in both retail and institutional financial markets, and structured product development roles where he was responsible for sourcing, repackaging and marketing complex financial markets products. Michael spent three years in Hong Kong and two years in New York where he acted as Westpac’s senior financial markets representative, helping expand the bank’s reach in structured credit products.

Kevin Prosser

Kevin joined Lonsec in 2003 and has overall responsibility for research into unlisted direct assets, including direct property syndicates and direct infrastructure funds. Prior to Lonsec, he was an Analyst and Investment Advisor with E. L. & C. Baillieu Stockbroking, Research Manager with G. K. Goh Stockbrokers in Kuala Lumpur and a Research Analyst with McIntosh Securities and AMP.

Deanne Baker

Senior Investment Analyst

Deanne joined Lonsec’s managed funds research team in July 2007 and is primarily responsible for undertaking research on multi-asset class products, alternative strategies and hedge funds. Prior to joining Lonsec, Deanne spent seven years with Invesco, where she worked as an assistant investment manager, responsible for managing multi-asset class and structured portfolios. Deanne has also previously held roles at Barclays Stockbrokers and Legal and General Investment Management in the UK.

Rui Fernandes

Senior Investment Analyst

Rui joined Lonsec’s managed funds research team in 2008 and is the lead analyst across the global equities and the long/short equities sectors. Before joining Lonsec, Rui held a number of investment research and analytical roles in the finance industry at firms such as Aviva Research, the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.

Simone Gavin

Senior Investment Analyst

Simone joined Lonsec in February 2013 as a Senior Investment Analyst within the managed funds research team. Simone is involved in the review of funds across all sectors, with primary focus in Australian equities, global equities, and global emerging markets. Prior to Lonsec, Simone spent 13 years working within financial services, her experience including more than four years with Standard and Poor’s managed funds research team. Simone also spent two years with Frontier Investment Consulting as an analyst working across various sectors and clients and five years with Towers Perrin including three years in the Netherlands.

Shailesh Jain

Senior Investment Analyst

Shailesh joined Lonsec in 2008 and works as an Investment Analyst within the managed funds research team. Shailesh is involved in the review of financial products across all sectors, with primary focus on global equities and global emerging markets. Prior to Lonsec, Shailesh spent four years as a Credit Analyst at National Australia Bank where he was responsible for performing analytical review of financial statements and drafting credit memorandum.

Sam Morris

Senior Investment Analyst

Sam joined Lonsec’s property and infrastructure research team in 2007 and now works within the broader managed funds research team. His main responsibilities include financial products in the domestic, global and hybrid property securities sectors, Australian equities sectors and hedge funds. He is also sector lead for the Alternatives sector. Prior to joining Lonsec, Sam worked as a Consultant/Economist within a property advisory team at Pitney Bowes MapInfo. Sam’s other work history includes roles with the National Australia Bank and UBS Investment Bank in London.

Steven Sweeney

Steven joined Lonsec in June 2007 as a Senior Investment Analyst within the managed funds research team and has a decade of financial services experience. Steven has lead analyst responsibilities across the emerging markets and Asian equity, Australian smaller companies and responsible investment sectors. Prior to joining Lonsec, Steven spent three years as a Research Analyst at Aviva Research where he was responsible for researching and rating managed funds across various asset classes for the Navigator platform. His career also includes time at the Royal Bank of Scotland in Edinburgh where he provided research and reports across various industry sectors for the Chief Economist’s unit.

Adrian Hoe

Adrian joined Lonsec’s managed funds research team in November 2011 and is involved in the review of financial products across all sectors, with primary responsibilities for research of ETFs, alternatives and Australian equities. Prior to joining Lonsec, Adrian spent three years as a Research Analyst at IOOF where he was responsible for researching managed funds and providing investment consulting services.

Jude McDonnell

Senior Investment Analyst

Jude joined Lonsec in February 2015. Whilst at Lonsec, Jude will be covering the Fixed Interest and Multi Asset sectors with her primary responsibility being the preparation of detailed research reports. Jude has 13 years of experience working within financial services. Her most recent role of more than six years with Mercer Investments where she was responsible for providing investment consulting services to institutional clients in the Superannuation, Insurance and Endowment and Foundation space. Jude’s other work history includes roles with Macquarie Bank, Perennial Investment Partners, DST International, and Bank of New York Mellon (London).

Simon Baird

Simon joined Lonsec in November 2014 as an Investment Analyst within the specialised research team. In this role, Simon’s main tasks will be to assist with the research into unlisted direct assets, including direct property syndicates and direct infrastructure funds. Simon is currently completing his Master’s in Business (Property) at RMIT after completing a Bachelor of Business (Applied) at the same institution. Before joining Lonsec, Simon gained experience in the property sector of the Commercial Banking department at Westpac, supporting the Head of Property in financial analysis, cash flow modelling and writing credit submissions for investment and development transactions.

Amy Ho

Investment Analyst

Amy joined Lonsec’s managed fund research team in January 2012 and is responsible for undertaking managed fund research across a range of sectors. Most recently Amy worked as a Performance Analyst at Industry Superannuation Property Trust where she was responsible for performance reporting, attribution analysis and forecasting. She also held a position with JBWere in the Private Wealth Management division, where she was in charge of improving the systems and processes supporting the portfolio reporting service. Amy has completed Level 3 of the CFA Program and is now working towards gaining the CFA Charterholder status.

James Kirk

Investment Analyst

James joined Lonsec in April 2013 as a Graduate Investment Analyst within the managed funds research team. In this role, James is involved in the review of financial products across the global equities and the long/short equities sectors, with his primary responsibility being the preparation of detailed research reports. James recently completed his Honours in Finance degree alongside a double major in Finance and Financial Planning. Before joining Lonsec, James gained experience as an Investment Analyst within Dixon Advisory. James was responsible for implementing advice and producing equity and market commentary reports.

Prasanka Rajapaksha

Investment Analyst

Prasanka joined Lonsec in May 2015 as an Investment Analyst to the managed funds research team. In this role, he is involved in the review of fixed income products and with his primary responsibility being the preparation of detailed research reports. Prior to Lonsec, Prasanka was an AVP at Fitch Ratings for two years where his main focus was credit rating of banks and financial institutions. He also served five years at the Central Bank of Sri Lanka initially as a bank analyst/supervisor and later as a fixed income & forex dealer/analyst.

Sheng Tan

Sheng joined the Lonsec managed funds research team in March 2016 and is primarily responsible for preparing detailed research reports across various sectors. Sheng's most recent role was at ANZ Wealth, providing bespoke investment portfolio advice to retail clients. Prior to that, he spent four years as a Financial Analyst at Dixon Advisory executing a variety of investment analytical and research tasks.

Sharmeel Suka

Associate Investment Analyst

Sharmeel joined Lonsec in April 2016 and will be covering the Fixed Interest and Multi Asset sectors with his primary responsibility being the preparation of detailed research reports. Sharmeel has just over 2 years of experience working within financial services. Prior to Lonsec, his most recent role was as an Investment Research Analyst at netwealth Investments where he was responsible for investment menu due diligence and maintenance. Sharmeel graduated from Monash University with a Master’s of Applied Finance in 2014 after completing a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Melbourne in 2012.

Mark Stephan

Mark joined Lonsec in October 2015 as an Associate Investment Analyst within the managed funds research team. In his role, Mark’s main tasks are to assist with the research of managed funds across a range of different sectors with his primary responsibility being the preparation of detailed research reports. Mark recently passed the December 2014 CFA Level 1 Examination after graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance & Marketing) from the University of Melbourne. Mark has also completed a Diploma of Financial Planning and is RG146 accredited. Before joining Lonsec, Mark gained experience as an Associate Adviser at RI Advice Surrey Hills (now Horizons Wealth) and more recently in Investor Services at Netwealth Investment & Superannuation.

Matthew O’Neill

Matthew joined Lonsec in December 2015 as a Graduate Investment Analyst within the managed funds research team. Benjamin O’Shea

Ben joined Lonsec in April 2016 as a Graduate Investment Analyst across the direct assets and specialised research teams. In this role, Ben assists with the research of structured and exchange traded products and is involved with the research of unlisted direct assets, including direct property syndicates. Prior to Lonsec, Ben worked at Equity Trustees in the operations department of the Corporate Trustees Services team.

Samantha Hauptman

Samantha joined Lonsec in July 2016 as a Graduate Investment Analyst within the managed funds research team. In this role, Samantha’s main tasks will be to assist with the research into managed funds across a range of different sectors with her primary responsibility being the preparation of detailed research reports.
Samantha is currently studying Master of Finance at the University of Melbourne and recently graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Business. Samantha will be commencing study for the CFA Level 1 examination in 2017.

Geraldine Goh

Geraldine joined Lonsec in September 2016 as a Graduate Investment Analyst within the managed funds research team. In this role, Geraldine’s main tasks will be to assist with the research into managed funds across a range of different sectors with her primary responsibility being the preparation of detailed research reports. Geraldine graduated with Master of Finance and Bachelor of Business (Accountancy) both from RMIT, and is currently studying for the CFA Level 1 examination in June 2017. Prior to joining Lonsec, Geraldine gained experience as a Money Market and FX Dealer for First Commercial Bank Ltd, Singapore Branch.

Chloe George

Chloe joined Lonsec in October 2016 as a Graduate Investment Analyst within the managed funds research team. In this role, Chloe’s main tasks will be to assist with the research into managed funds across a range of different sectors with her primary responsibility being the preparation of detailed research reports. Chloe graduated with a Bachelor of Economics with Honours from La Trobe University, and is enrolled for the CFA Level 1 examination in June 2017. Prior to joining Lonsec, Chloe gained experience as an Implementation Specialist at IRESS and a Consultant for Capita Procurement Solutions in London.

Veronica Klaus

Veronica joined Lonsec in October 2011 as a Senior Investment Consultant. In this role, Veronica provides advice and input into the model portfolio construction process, including fund research, selection and portfolio construction advice, as well as and asset allocation decisions. She is also responsible for maintaining relationships with key dealer group clients and providing them with tailored solutions. Veronica was most recently a Director of Investment Consulting at 358 Australia Pty Ltd and prior to that, she spent a number of years at CPG Research & Advisory as a Senior Consultant; Standard & Poor’s Investment Consulting Division; Manager Investments at State Super Financial Services and as a research analyst at Bridges Financial Services.

Eleanor Menniti

Senior Investment Consultant

Eleanor joined Lonsec’s investment consulting team in 2009 and is involved in model portfolio reviews, approved product list analysis, and performance reporting for Lonsec’s consulting clients, as well as the preparation of other Lonsec research publications. Prior to joining Lonsec, Eleanor worked as a researcher at Australian Fund Monitors, managing data and writing reports on the hedge fund and absolute return fund sectors. She also spent four years in the operational division of Macquarie Private Wealth.

Nicholas Thomas

Senior Investment Consultant

Nicholas joined Lonsec in March 2013 as a Senior Investment Analyst within the research team. He has since moved to the Investment Consulting team as a Senior Investment Consultant. In this role Nicholas provides portfolio construction advice, including fund research, selection and asset allocate on analysis for Lonsec Investment Consulting’s clients including dealer groups, independent financial planning groups and industry super funds. Nicholas has 13 years’ investment experience and was most recently a Senior Research Investment Analyst at Russell Investments, where he was responsible for researching Australian and Asian equity funds. Previously he spent five years at MLC Investment Management in a variety of analytical roles.

Wilson Kwok

Senior Investment Consultant

Wilson joined Lonsec in 2010 as an Investment Consultant and is involved in the review of approved product lists, model portfolios and strategic asset allocation. He is also heavily involved in quantitative analysis for the research and investment consulting teams. Prior to Lonsec, Wilson was a Performance Analyst at van Eyk Research, where he was responsible for performance reporting, approved product list and model portfolio reviews within the asset consulting team. He has also worked for Fidelity International as an investment marketing specialist focused on competitor analysis, and was previously employed as a research analyst with Rainmaker.

David Wilson

Investment Consultant

David joined Lonsec in 2015 as an Investment Consultant and is involved in the model portfolio construction process, review of approved product lists and client investment committee meeting preparation. Prior to joining Lonsec, David worked as a Research manager for the Findex Group where he was responsible for fund manager research, performance reporting, APL and model portfolio reviews and economic research for a network of 150 financial planners. David holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics/Finance) and is currently completing a Masters of Applied Finance.

Eddy Zhang

Graduate Investment Consultant

Eddy joined Lonsec in January 2017 as a Graduate Investment Consultant within the investment consulting team in Sydney. In this role, Eddy’s main tasks will be to assist with the consulting services across a range of different clients with his primary responsibility being the preparation of performance report, performance attribution and investment committee pack. Eddy recently graduated with a Master of Research (Applied Finance and Actuarial Studies) from Macquarie University. Prior to that, Eddy was an Accountant in a project management company for three years, where he was responsible for preparation financial reports across several projects. Eddy holds a Master of Finance and a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting & Finance) from the University of New South Wales. Eddy has been qualified as a CPA since 2015.

Danial Moradi

Senior Equities Strategist

Danial Joined Lonsec in 2007, and is currently responsible for the management of Lonsec’s Income and Emerging Leaders Model Portfolios, in addition to assisting with the construction and management of Lonsec’s other direct equity model portfolios. Danial is also a member of Lonsec’s Portfolio Services Investment Committee that oversees the management and Investment strategies of Lonsec’s direct equity model portfolios. Previously at Lonsec, Danial was responsible for in-depth research coverage on a number of listed companies from a wide range of sectors including Financial Services and Telecommunications, in addition to publishing Lonsec’s quarterly Listed Income Securities Investment Journal. Danial has over 10 years’ experience in trading, research and analysis of local and international equity and derivatives markets.

Ross Bird

Equities Strategist

Ross re-joined Lonsec in June 2013 developing specialised portfolios for wholesale clients. Ross is a member of Lonsec’s Portfolio Services Investment Committee that oversees the management and Investment strategies of Lonsec’s direct equity model portfolios. Ross has 27 years’ experience in Banking, Funds Management and Stockbroking research and portfolio management. Previously, Ross held Strategist roles at Lonsec, Aegis Equities, Morningstar and Bellwether. Prior to this, Ross was a Resources Analyst at National Mutual (now AXA) for 10 years.

Matthew Asquith

Hybrid / Equities Analyst

Matt joined Lonsec’s equity research team in October 2013 as a Listed Hybrid Analyst. Matt is responsible for the provision of research on new listed income securities and maintaining research coverage on 50 existing hybrid securities. Prior to Lonsec, Matt’s previous experience includes 3 years at private client advisory at Ord Minnett, 1 year at SAI Private and 3 years at Mercer.

Toby Greene

Graduate Equities Analyst

Toby joined the Lonsec Equities Research team in September 2016. Toby is responsible for maintaining research coverage on existing hybrid securities, AM and PM Bulletin market wraps and providing corporate action updates on ASX 200 listed companies.
Prior to Lonsec, Toby performed contract work as an analyst at multiple boutique corporate advisory firms for six months and worked two years in operations at a boutique marketing firm.

Stewart Gault

General Manager – Research Analytics

Stewart joined Lonsec in 2010 and leads the Research Analytics Team. Stewart’s chief role is in the ongoing development of Lonsec’s quantitative tools and data processes. He assists the manager research team in process improvement. Stewart has previously been a Senior Investment Analyst within the managed funds research team. He remains involved in peer review of financial products and is an active member of Lonsec’s Research Process Committee. Prior to Lonsec, Stewart was Director of Operations at Olympus Funds Management, where he was responsible for managing all operational aspects of the firm‘s listed investment company. He has also worked as a business consultant in Tokyo and was previously employed as an engineer with a technology firm.

Jen Lee

Data Analyst

Jen joined Lonsec in 2013 and works as a Data Analyst within the managed funds research team. Jen manages the data supply with external providers and ensures the integrity of data used by Lonsec Research. Jen also provides support on strategic initiatives projects. Prior to Lonsec, Jen worked at IRESS Limited, where she was responsible for financial market data for all exchanges available on IRESS terminal. Jen has also recently completed CFA Level 2.

Colin Chen

Data Assistant

Colin joined Lonsec in October 2015 as a Data Assistant within the managed funds research team. Colin assists in the maintenance of research models and tools, data integrity and client support. Colin completed his studies at RMIT University with first class Honours and Doctorate degrees both in Mathematics. Prior to joining Lonsec, Colin was employed by RMIT as a research assistant and sessional tutor for the school of Mathematical and Geospatial Science. Colin has also worked as a consultant dealing with Econometric and Statistical projects.

Will Mischlewski

IT Developer

Will joined Lonsec in February 2016. At Lonsec Research, Will is developing software and tools that will improve the efficiency, and scalability of the research process. In his studies, Will specialised in pure mathematics and probability. He has done research into the approximation of and limits of stochastic processes, which has applications in the pricing of options as well as modelling and forecasting portfolio returns. Will also has experience developing E-Commerce websites for large Australian retailers, and creating tools to help retailers manage, and utilize their data.

Chris Schroder

General Manager, Business Development

Chris joined the Lonsec team in 2006 and is responsible for overall business development of Lonsec’s suite of investment research services. In addition to building new sales, Chris is also involved in strengthening client relationships through research presentations, client pitches and site visits to financial planners and fund managers throughout Australia. Previously Chris held various roles in the UK as part of his overseas adventures as well two years in settlements for mortgage lender Liberty Financial.

Dan McAleer

Strategic Relationship Manager

Dan McAleer is the Strategic Relationship Manager for Lonsec Research. His responsibilities include the service of both new and existing fund manager clients through the Lonsec Research ratings process by providing education, guidance and a high level of client support. In addition, he is also responsible for generating new business in the areas of research ratings, investment consulting and investment solutions services. Prior to this role, Dan was Business Development Manager at Lonsec where he was responsible for the sales of Lonsec Research subscriptions to Advisers, Dealer Groups and Financial Institutions. Dan has previous experience in product design and management, sales, and relationship management with roles at Mercer and IRESS. Dan has 10 years of industry experience and holds a Master of Applied Finance.

Tracey Barden

Senior Client Relations & Training Consultant

Tracey joined the Lonsec team in April 2015 and is responsible for managing Lonsec’s retail and institutional client relationships, and building the capabilities of iRate users through training and ongoing support. Tracey’s key focus is on enhancing the user experience of iRate clients and maximising the value of their package through on-site demonstrations, online webinars, and phone and email support. Prior to joining Lonsec, Tracey held various other roles in the financial services industry, including with Macquarie Group and ING Direct when she first came to Australia in 2013. Tracey has 12 years of client service experience and rapport building with clients, including eight years in Dublin, Ireland working in retail banking for Allied Irish Bank, before moving to Brown Brothers Harriman as a client service specialist in fund administration.
